Full Spectrum V Isolate V Broad Spectrum

Every CBD product available on the market will come in three forms, Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum or Isolate.

  • Full Spectrum is exactly as it sounds, made up of all the Cannabinoids and Terpenes found in the Cannabis plant, including the psychoactive Cannabinoid, THC. (Note, any Full Spectrum product sold in Europe must contain no more than 0.2% THC).
  • Broad Spectrum, is exactly the same as Full Spectrum, however the THC has been completely removed (extracted), and has a 0% presence in the final product.
  • Isolate, is a product containing an extremely high percentage of just one Cannabinoid, usually around the mid 90% mark. (Click here to see our 100% pure CBD Isolate). To produce Isolate, manufacturers use various processes to extract all the compounds and substance from the plant, leaving behind in ‘isolation’, extremely pure crystalline solid, or powder.

So now we know their definitions, what are their benefits?

  • Full Spectrum. Produced by extracting all the Cannabinoids and Terpenes (Full Range) found present in the Cannabis plant, including THC. The actual Cannabis plant is grown from a specific seed, which guarantees the THC content will be below the legal limit (0.2%). Due to the Full Spectrum containing a full range of Cannabinoids and Terpenes, it can deliver a powerful entourage effect, with benefits that far exceed those delivered by CBD isolate. Full Spectrum CBD is commonly found in oils, yet all methods of obtaining CBD can feature Full Spectrum, whether in the form of vaping, topicals or orally ingested. Due to the entourage effect, this form of CBD is known to be the best, when dealing with any CBD related ailment.
  • Broad Spectrum. The newest form of CBD to be showcased to the Cannabinoid world, Broad Spectrum. Just like the Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum also produces the “entourage effect”, without the risk of THC showing up on a drugs test. It is quite simple to stick to the recommend dose when taking CBD via and oil or spray, however it can be a little more difficult when attaining CBD from a tempting pot of gummy bears. For example, I am an avid user of Full Spectrum honey, with the recommended dose being a teaspoon or two a day. I can easily consume say ten teaspoons a day (not sure if that is my Greek heritage, or just a general lack of self-control). Thankfully, my career is now CBD, which for the time being, does not require the need for random drug testing. What I’m getting at here, is that you cannot guarantee the absence of THC if testing was involved, which makes Broad Spectrum the perfect form of CBD to take for any athlete, law enforcer, pilot etc.
  • A crystalline solid or powder, which unlike the two spectrums, does not have a distinctive smell or taste. Isolate, whether it be CBD, CBG or CBN, is the cleanest and purest Cannabinoid product available on the market. Due to its extreme potency, any CBD isolate can only be used for vaping/inhaling, or as a topical product., where it is more commonly found. Despite the ingestion of CBD isolate being prohibited in the UK, CBG isolate has not yet been deemed illegal to ingest (See our 98% CBG Isolate Nano Mist Spray here). A key ingredient in the majority of creams/lotions and bathroom related CBD products, CBD isolate does not tend to have the same therapeutic benefits as a Broad/Full Spectrum product does, as it lacks the “entourage effect”. Isolates are gaining popularity, however due to its extreme potency, and ability to provide accurate doses.
