ABOUT US
First, let me welcome you to Alpha Verde and thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read about us. I will try my best to keep you entertained and will try my hardest not to bore you! So, forget your mouse or keyboard exist and get comfy!
I will start at the very beginning, way back in 2007… I was a reckless teenager, approaching the peak of my physical power, with an unjustified sense of invincibility about me. I really thought I could take on the world, and still make it home in time for dinner at nine o'clock! Home was a very relaxing place for me at that time, mainly due to the fact that my mum used to power through 80-hour week shifts at our family restaurant, leaving my younger sister and I plenty of time to do whatever we wanted to do. I started to find myself spending more and more time away from home with friends and leaving the house at 11am to then return at 3am the next morning.
On an icy November evening that year, however, it all came to an abrupt halt. Now they say that boys/men mature a lot slower than girls/women, and this phrase could not epitomise my group of friends any better! Six of us were sharing a couple of joints and without realising, one of my friends had ducked down behind me, another gave me a nudge, and seconds later I had landed straight on my backside. I did not know what was worse, my friends in absolute stitches at my expense, or the pain that my rear had just experienced, taking the brunt of the fall.
I jumped to my feet, quicker than I had fallen, and felt determined to catch the so called ‘friend’, who had now started to run, having seen the ‘I’m going to get you back’ look in my eyes. As I was gaining on him down a hill, it happened. I decided to cut through an empty drive to get closer, and there it was, the foot-high brick wall separating the driveways. I clipped the wall at a high speed and was sent flying, and my knee took the full impact. I was quickly surrounded by my friends, with the situation turning from laughter, to serious worry over my injury. I was helped to my feet, and was instantly sick, which was quite alarming. I had been a keen sportsman throughout my life and had never been one to turn away from a tackle, sustaining a variety of minor injuries, but this was different. It was touch and go whether to go to A&E, but to this day, I wish I had. Nothing scared me more at the time than hospitals, they were like my kryptonite, and even though I didn’t feel like the superhero I thought I was, I was adamant A&E was not on the agenda. (It appears avoiding doctors seems to be a man thing after various discussions with family, friends and colleagues!).
I hobbled home that night, aided by the two friends who felt partially responsible. I felt so cold, it was as though I had been asleep in a freezer all evening. In the morning, I assessed the expected swelling, which was so severe I could not even make out my kneecap. I had limited movement, but was able to bend it slightly, and honestly thought that that was a sign everything would be ok after some icepack treatment.
I maintained my stance on hospital treatment, believing that my self-medicated way was best; curbing my temptation to kick a football, staying away from piggy back rides with my nieces and nephews, and daily baths with Radox muscle relaxing salts.
It took me around 18 months to get back to playing football again, and even though my knee still did not feel 100%, I persevered. I would be able to play 90 minutes but would then have severe back pain for days after. It became unbearable, causing me to stop playing the game I loved, in fear that I wouldn’t be able to go to work the next day. It hit the worst point when I was on holiday in 2018. I participated in a 3pm kick about with other tourists, that had been arranged by the hotel. It was a light workout and I barely broke a sweat, but the next morning I felt paralysed, almost as though I was telling my left side to move, but with no response. My right side felt okay, but the slightest movement caused sharp, stab like pains all over, and there I was stuck in that hotel bed for 36 hours, before the pain completely disappeared.
I returned to England and saw a range of specialists with no conclusive answers, until I decided to finally go for an MRI scan. The scan showed that I had ligament damage to my left knee from the fall in 2004, and because I had left it to heal itself, there was a disproportionate weight balance on the two knees. This resulted in the left knee being a lot weaker, as well as the muscles surrounding it. But I still wondered why I had felt the shooting pains and paralysis feeling in my back. Could it have just been the weak muscles? It was actually the Sciatic nerve running through my body that was being irritated, and there wasn’t much that could be done, other than specific exercises and deep tissue massages to help manage my pain.
I found it difficult to maintain the daily exercises, as I was now running the family restaurant, which consisted early of mornings and extremely late nights. Treating the Sciatica was also proving to be a financial burden, with massages amounting to almost £500 per month. I felt like I was stumbling through life, sacrificing most of the enjoyable times due to my issues, and the last thing I wanted to do was have an epidural steroid injection!
One of my close friends, who funnily enough was with me on that fateful evening, recommended I try CBD. I was partially aware of what CBD was, however, I wasn’t overly intrigued once finding out it was non-psychoactive. I knew that THC had therapeutic benefits, but I was not optimistic about CBD and its claims, as I had never been one for homeopathic or natural remedies. Nevertheless, after their persistent recommendation, I decided to give it a go, and bought a high strength 1000mg, 10ml oil from the same company my friend purchased from. The severity of my pain coupled together with my high tolerance levels deemed it necessary.
During the four weeks or so of using the oil, I noticed no relief from my pain whatsoever, but I had decided to investigate this whole CBD world, to see if there were in fact others that had found it beneficial. After researching and educating myself on every aspect of this mysterious Cannabinoid, I remained hopeful that there would be a product out there that could help me. I continued with oils, knowing it was the next best thing to vaping, which I wouldn’t even consider as an option for the sake of my lungs, not to mention how difficult I had found it to quit smoking. Without sounding completely outdated, those funky electronic vape pens, that seem to release the same amount of smoke as a locomotive train when you exhale, scare the hell out of me! I know full well the dangers of smoking tobacco and have always thought it feels premature to promote a similar product, without evidence of the dangers it can cause after prolonged usage.
So back to the next round of oils, sorry to deviate. I decided to up my dosage and tried a 2500mg 10ml, hoping that the increase in strength would provide me with relief, but once again I was left feeling disappointed and somewhat short-changed. I felt completely frustrated but I didn’t want to give up. This bottle had cost me £100 and I had purchased it from a company that I had picked myself, after doing my due diligence. I decided to speak to an expert on their site, and I was persuaded to try their full spectrum oil as opposed to the broad spectrum I had been using so far. This was the last shot, and once again… disappointment!
Einstein’s quote “Insanity – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” resonated in my head, as I spoke with the expert again trying to get some sort of refund. I finally decided to call it a day, believing that it just wasn’t for me, or I wasn’t for it, and put all of my efforts in to managing the pain as best I could.
I slowly started creeping into the 80 hour a week shifts, replacing my mother as the owner of the business. I was extremely fortunate, bordering on a spoilt young man, that had a successful business handed down to me. Up until now, running the restaurant has taught me countless life lessons, and not only has it provided financial stability and many memories, it was the place that I met my wife, who now runs the restaurant alongside me (I say alongside me, but we both know she’s the boss, and it suits her perfectly). She has done so well in fact, that it has given us a lot freer time in the last few months to decide the next chapter in our lives. I didn’t want to end up like my mother, who worked nonstop to provide for her family. At 35 years old, I felt like I had the body of a 60-year-old, and desperately wanted a new career; a career that didn’t require any physical exertion, maybe one that could earn me money while I slept! That would be great wouldn’t it? Just the idea of being able to make a living from my laptop for example seemed to take some of the weight off of my shoulders.
Now I am quite a superstitious person and believe that the universe works in mysterious ways. Nothing could have justified my beliefs in a more fitting manner, then when I received a message nine months ago from a friend I hadn’t heard from in a decade. Yep, you guessed it, it was the same friend that I was chasing down the street 16 years ago. After catching up and rekindling our friendship, I happened to meet his boss, Zulfiqar Khan. Zulfi, as I now refer to him, was working with a scientist, Dr Tom Chapman, who together operate a couple of successful CBD companies. Between the both of them, they have an accumulated 80 years in the Biopharmaceutical and medicinal Marijuana industries, and most recently CBD. Tom, our scientist, who is a former World Health Organisation board member, creator of ‘Sativex’, and approved EU GMP inspector, designed the CO2 extraction process that we now use for Cannabinoid extraction. Zulfiqar (FSc), (BSc), (MSC), (PgD), (MBA), has launched some landmark products in Biopharmaceutical science such as, Botox, Growth Hormones and various Oncology products. Over the past decade, his area of focus has been Cannabinoids and medicinal Cannabis, and he frequently serves as a keynote speaker, and panellist at the Major International Medical Cannabis conferences.
Zulfi, who lives to help people, noticed my Sciatica instantly. I’m not sure if it was the fragile steps I was taking or the grunts I would make when sitting down that gave it away, but he recommended trying his CBD. With an ironic roll of the eyes, I politely declined his offer, explaining to him my negative history of CBD. He then proceeded to explain that his CBD product was like no other, delivering five times the bioavailability compared to all other oils. After discussing bioavailability for what seemed like an eternity, I took one of his 1000mg nano/micron sprays home with renewed hope.
After just four days of using it, I felt some relief… HALLELUJAH!
Now I’m not going to preach to you about this miraculous new product that has completely healed me, because it didn’t. It simply numbed the sharp pains, morphing them into aches, but enabling me to comfortably do the things that I previously took for granted. I could finally put my socks on without asking my wife for help or have a bath for the first time in years as I could finally get in and out of it by myself. It was truly the gamechanger that I had hoped it would be.
I started spending more and more time with both Zulfi and Tom, listening intently to any wisdom they wished to divulge, and after noticing something special in me too, Zulfi decided to include me in his day to day business. The day that ultimately confirmed this was my calling, was when I was invited to sit in on a meeting in London with Zulfi and a consortium representing a large American supermarket company. A deal was agreed there and then to provide them with 1 million of our Nano sprays every month. That was it, I was finally in a position that I believed I was destined for. Later that week, I started Alpha Verde, which has taken the sublingual Nano sprays to new dimensions. Not only did I finally have my career change, but I had a product in my hands that I genuinely knew could help people... a complete no brainer!
We have adopted the patented technology used in ‘Sativex’ and converted it into Nano Mist, Alpha Verde’s premium product range, and the most effective and safe way to administer CBD and CBG. We are extremely proud of our very own farms, providing quality ingredients for our extraction facility, our successful partnership with Pro Verde labs, now approaching our 10-year anniversary, and to be one of the only cannabinoid companies in the UK, manufacturing their products at a GMP certified facility
But nothing makes us prouder to say, that we can medically prove that our CBD Nano Mist range will give your body a guaranteed fifteen times more CBD than any other oil or spray.
