CBD for Sleep
CBD for Sleep
We all know the importance of getting a good night's sleep and how one restless night can drastically affect the following day. Experts tell us that the average healthy adult requires 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day and the National Institute of Health, estimates that roughly 30% of the general population complains of sleep disruption.
Enter CBD. One of the most, if not main unique selling point of CBD, was the ability to combat insomnia. We now know that CBD is responsible for treating patients with anxiety, PTSD and other stress related disorders that contributes to a lack of sleep.
A recent 2019 study conducted by Scott Shannon MD, involved 72 patients who were experiencing a difficult time sleeping. After one month, with a daily 25 milligram dose of CBD, the following results were noted:
- 2% of the participants said that CBD resulted in lower levels of anxiety, and
- 7% of all participants said that CBD gave them a better night's sleep
In another research study, scientists in Sao Paulo Brazil tested patients with Parkinson's disease, which involved a disorder in the rapid eye movement (REM) during sleep. When administered with CBD, symptoms dramatically improved. Similar results have been found in another study published in ‘Springer Nature’, which goes on to state that CBD intake might help treat the disorder as well as daytime sleepiness.
CBD has been known to regulate the levels of Melatonin, which is the hormone responsible for maintaining your sleep-wake cycle. If the body is not producing enough Melatonin, CBD may assist in this biological function.
